Qiuming Yu, NTUF Lab Manager - Phone:(206) 543-5101

Qiuming Yu received her Ph.D. in the School of Chemical Engineering from Cornell University in 1995, and performed her postdoctoral research in the Microdevices Laboratory at Jet Propulsion Laboratory/California Institute of Technology. She was a non-tenure track assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Kansas State University and a research scientist in the Departments of Physics and Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington. She has been working on a variety of projects related to nanotechnology and nanoscience ranging from semiconductor thin film materials and devices to biomaterials and biosensors. Dr. Yu is responsible for user training on AFMs.

Dr Yu is fully responsible for the NTUF operation.


Ethan Allen, Education Manager - Phone:(206) 616-9760

Ethan Allen received his doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Oregon and did postdoctoral research both there and at the University of Texas, Austin. He then developed exhibits for Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry and designed and implemented science education renewal pr+ograms throughout Chicago's public schools. More recently, Ethan led science education partnerships at the UW's Department of Molecular Biotechnology and then at the Institute for Systems Biology. At the CNT, Ethan works with education programs for graduate, undergraduate, and pre-college students, as well as for broad public audiences.


Mack Carter, Assistant to the Director - Phone:(206) 616-9320

Mack Carter received his Bachelors degree in Liberal Studies with a focus on "Global World" at the University of Washington. As an Assistant to the Director, Mack coordinates the Center's weekly nanotech courses, fellowships, web development, and activities between the Center and UW/PNNL Joint Institute for Nanoscience. Mack has received numerous awards and certificates that include the Chemistry Department Distinguished Staff Award and UW Supervisory Certificate in 2001; a Certificate of Appreciation for his outstanding contributions to the Nanotechnology Seminar Series in 2002; and the UW Fiscal Management Certificate in 2004.


Paul Wallace Paul Wallace, Research Engineer - Phone:(206) 685-6775

Paul M. Wallace earned his Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry at the University of Washington and became a research scientist in the Nanotech User Facility in 2007. His expertise includes optical microscopes and image processing. Dr. Wallace is responsible for user training on Raman and confocal microscopes as well as contract work for remote users.


Xiaoxia Gao Xiaoxia Gao, Research Engineer - Phone:(206) 685-6771

Xiaoxia Gao received her Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Texas, at Austin in 2005. She has worked two years as the facility manager of FEI TECNAI F20 TEM at the Texas Materials Institute and Microelectronic Center, and became a research scientist in the Nanotech User Facility in 2008. She is responsible for user training on TECNAI TEM and TEM sample preparation.


Scott Braswell Scott Braswell, Research Engineer - Phone:(206) 685-6774

Scott Braswell received his BS in Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1998.  He worked for six years as a Cytogenetic Technologist, employing bright field and fluorescence microscopy to characterize chromosome lesions.  He received his Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington in 2007.   Scott is responsible for user training in SEM Imaging, E-Beam Lithography, and Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry (EDS).


Sharon Li, Budget Fiscal Analyst Lead - Phone:(206) 685-1701

Sharon Li graduated from Chinese University in Beijing, majoring in International Economics. She started at the University of Washington in the Genome Center during 2000 and joined the Center for Nanotechnology as a Fiscal Specialist II in 2004. She manages all fiscal matters and perform administrative support functions for the Center.
